Oh, Reader Friends. You are not going to believe this. I got my application/brochure for AEC's Conference On Southern Literature today and I almost passed out when I read it. Anne Patchett is going to be there. I'm trying to control myself by not using fifty thousand exclamation points, but children, this is a very big deal. I mean, it honestly never even occurred to me that being in the same city, let alone room as Anne Patchett could even be in the realm of possibility. AND she's doing a meet and greet! So of course, I immediately started rehearsing what I will say to the author who means the most to me and who, in my opinion, wrote the most romantic love story of all time. What do you guys think?
"Ms. Patchett, I am so honored to meet you. You are my favorite living author and I am humbled to be breathing the same air as you. Please sign Bel Canto. And my arm. I plan to go immediately to the tattoo parlor and have it tattooed on my skin. Also, can I have that tissue you used to wipe your nose during your reading? I want to frame it and display it on the wall in a prominent area of my house."
Then I'll probably pass out from the sheer brilliance of her awesome writerliness and the joy of knowing that the author of Bel Canto spent 2 seconds looking AT ME! What do you think? Too much fan girl?
Seriously though, those of you who know me well know that this is a MAJOR deal for me. Like, made my day just knowing it is possible that I will meet her big deal. Siiiiiiigh.
If you live anywhere near TN, I highly recommend that you make plans to attend the AEC Conference on Southern Literature. Other authors I
