Blog Hop!

Welcome to another week of the Book Blogger Hop, hosted by Crazy-For-Books!  This week we are asked:

"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"

There have been quite a few really popular books that I didn't enjoy, but I'm not sure that I reviewed them on my blog.  The one that jumps out at me most is the Harry Potter series.  I read all of them but the last one, any I just didn't care about the characters.  I know, I probably just lost half my followers, but I wasn't really into it.  I think the time lapse between the books contributed to my loss of interest, but I was also just never really invested in them the way so many people were.

In regards to posting a review of a book I didn't enjoy, obviously that happens on here and it's always hard, especially if I feel like I "know" the author through our emails.  It's always hard to criticize something that someone else worked very hard on, so part of me always cringes when I hit the "publish post" button on a book I didn't like.

  1. You haven't lost me :) I was not a big fan of Harry Potter either...I read the first few with my daughter, and then when she was old enough to read them for herself but still wanted to read them with a parent, my husband gladly took over (he loved them). They have since seen all the movies together!

Glad to hear the puppy is doing better.

  2. I won't abandon you for the blaspheme uttered in your post (I kid haha) I loveeeee Harry Potter, but I know it's not for everyone. I think one book that just didn't live up to the hype for me was The Lonely Hearts Club. I loathed it.

  3. I havent read Harry Potter so I have no idea if they are good or not...:D Although I did love the movies....Have a great weekend

  4. Hi,

  5. I know .. it's hard to post an "I really didn't like it" review for a book when you know that author has put so much work and love into it ... that being said, if I put a lot of work and love into knitting a beautiful lace scarf that took months and was orange, yellow and brown, I wouldn't be too surprised to hear even my beloved daughters say, "Mom, I know you did a lot of work, but the scarf is hideous" .. just sayin'

  6. I can't imagine anyone not loving Harry Potter, but I'm sure there are people who feel the same way about books they loved that I didn't care for. :)

  7. It is hard when an author has emailed you etc and then you don't enjoy the book but they hyped ones make me always oh goodness am I going to get attacked, lol

    My response

  8. Yes it's rather hard to critize a book when you feel that you know him/her through e-mail

  9. grrrr, on the Harry Potter bit--I am a new found fan as of a couple of months ago! You should give them a try again...maybe you'll change your mind!
